Tropical Fish Diseases and
Symptoms White spot, is one of the most common tropical fish
diseases that most fish enthusiast come across at some point.
This disease is arguably the most destructive
and can appear in numerous places on a fish
People that keep fresh water aquariums, fall
subject to this at least once in their life time as an aquarist.
In plain English it is a singular parasite
organism.
It looks like a hair floating in the water,
except it does not float, it has the effect of being motorised as it finds its way around the tank.
An adult cell is approximately a millimetre in size, easy to recognize with the human
eye.
It resides under the top layer of scales and
ruptures the skin of the fish.
How does white spot manage to get into an
aquarium?
There are numerous ways this can happen. You
could have added a few fish to your collection that may be already infected. A further reason
is they could have arrived with any plants you may have recently added to your
tank.
If you have an uninterrupted tank, this
could mean that the organism could have been around for some time in hibernation.
They are very similar to fleas out of the
water, they breed in their thousands. In a very short space of time and do not die when in
hibernation.
They often come out of hibernation with a
sudden change of water temperature. These little fellows are very intelligent. They are able to
recognize the weakest fish and attach them selves to the fish under the scales or
gills.
White spot is very infectious and can wipe out
your collection of tropical fish in no time. It is without doubt one the most destructive tropical
fish diseases there are. You will need to take immediate action if you find yourself in this
situation.
How would you deal with white spot
tropical fish diseases?
As in all tropical fish disease
situations, to prevent it happening is the best way forward. When you are adding fish to your
tank make sure they are healthy fish. Only deal with a fish dealer that has clean tanks and healthy
fish.

the gravel at the bottom is fresh and clean. When you are adding plants only add healthy
plants.
