The solution is really simple, get your self a power filter, they are not expensive and can save you a lot of money.

It’s a self cleaning system that really works. It gets rid of chemicals, dirt, odor, discoloration, and impurities in the water and this can avoid fish diseases.


The only negative is, you need to keep a close eye on how often you change the filters. However if you change the filters every 3 to 4 weeks then you will have no problems.

The filters you would be advised to throw away. By following this system I can think of no reason why you should not have happy, healthy fish.


 How to maintain an aquarium and what is Algae?


Algae, is something to be taken seriously, it can damage the most attractive tank and it is difficult to ignore.

An algae can spoil your fish aquarium experience, even if you have the most beautiful fish in your aquarium.

Algae is a form of seaweed, it comes in many different colours depending on the country you are residing. The picture to the left is a  red algae that was discovered in Hawaii.

 
However, there is a simple and quick way to solve this problem, you can get a product called plecostomus It is well known in the industry as an algae eater and this will keep your tank clean.

If you choose not to get this product then you will have to remove the algae physically. There are lots of utensils to do this and can vary by cost.

 
It is important to bear in mind that algae blossoms in the sun.  If your tank is exposed to the sunlight for a couple of hours a day  it can cause problems than if you tank is in the shade.


You can avoid strong smells by changing your filter on a regular basis.

 

 
Unclear Water


If you find you have unclear water this is a indication that your over feeding your fish. You only need to feed your fish two to three times a day and limit it to three to five minutes in one session.

 
If you can afford it by using bottled water or filtered water, this has proved to very sucessful for many fish keepers.

 

It is a little expensive but can save you a lot of money in the long term.

 
How often should you change your water?


It is recommend that you change the water every two weeks to be on the safe side.

You can do this by using a siphon. Remove twenty percent of the water with a siphon, put one end in the tank and the other in your lips and suck its as simple as that.


The moment the water starts to run, allow some of it to drain away in another container.

Now you need to clean the inside of the aquarium, with a soft cloth or sponge. Be careful not to scratch the aquarium. Be cautious not to use a scraper, this can damage acrylic aquariums.

 
If you have any decorations soak them in hot water and little bit of salt. Clean them with a soft cloth or sponge.

It is important not to use soap or any detergents of any kind, this will kill the fish very rapidly. 
When you are refilling your tank  keep a close eye on the temperature of the water to suit your fishes needs.
