It is a fact that all fish have individual
characters, so when you are choosing your fish it is important to do some research in this
area.
If you have ever observed tropical fish for any
length of time you would have discovered their behaviour patterns vary. One minute they are
peaceful and then they fall into a pattern of aggressive behaviour.
Its usually the larger fish that are
responsible for these actions. You could describe them as bullies, because they attack the smaller
fish.
Try to avoid fish with a reputation for having
a territorial nature and are aggressive. Look for peace loving fish in order to create a happy
environment and a prolonged life for them.
You often see a large selection of fresh
water tropical fish in the local pet store, but that does not mean that they come from the same
part of the world.
A little lateral thinking is required not
all fish live in the same water temperature, so choosing fish that are compatible to the same water
temperature is a smart move.
When you are choosing your selection of
tropical fish the size to your tank has to be taken into consideration, how much money you want to
spend.
One of the positive sides to this is the colour
of the fish, however because they are very colourful does not mean they are more expensive. In fact
some of the most beautiful fish in colour can be very moderately priced!
The Clown loach is a very attractive fish and
full of wonderful colours. They are not known to be aggressive and quite fascinating to watch. They
make a clicking sound almost like they have false teeth when they swim around.
They best survive in conditions if they have
three or more of them, try to avoid buying them singular. They grow quite large around eight inches
or more and usually feed on food with meat content.
Congo Tetra is another smart choice, they like
a peaceful life if you are just starting out this would be ideal. They are easy to maintain, they
like to swim in schools, so you will need to buy them in quantities of five or six. They love to
swim in and around plants.
The Congo Tetra would be considered to be fully
grown at around five to six inches.
They need at least thirty gallons of water in
order to have a comfortable place to swim.
The Elephant Nose is another good choice, this
is very popular fish and grows to a size of around eight inches.
They like to grovel in the sand at the bottom
of the aquarium, they can be a bit territorial ,but if you have more than one you should be okay.
These are just a few options however there are many more options.
